It had been how long? Almost two years, it had to have been, since she had set foot here. Thoughts were kept carefully blank as she walked down the familiar streets. At her side walked a hulking purple Nidoking, her beloved Auron. They both had history here, both had a story that kept their hearts and minds linked to this place forever. She wished she could shake it, take away all the pain and heartache that the memory of this city put forth onto her weak state, but she knew it would never be that easy. If it was, it wouldn't matter nearly as much to her; wouldn't hit her nearly as deep, down in her soul. If she even had one left. She wasn't sure anymore. Golden eyes, like smelted metal, gazed around her in the setting sun. She sighed, wondering why the hell she did this to herself every so often. Why couldn't she stay away? There was nothing here but bad memories. Something always brought her back. It hurt, but it was the only thing she knew to do. Auron stopped, looking around him. Most of the city people were in their homes, eating dinner with loved ones. He looked down to his trainer, gauging her reaction. He hated how sad she always looked here, but he would do whatever she asked. If she wanted to leave he would go, and he would stay if she wished to stay. It was simple for him, black and white choices. Capricia's conflicting emotions, however, were apparent on her face. Auron made a displeased sound low in his throat, narrowing his eyes at the flame-haired woman. He knew something was wrong, he could feel it. She wasn't being sarcastic or anything like she normally was. In fact she wasn't speaking at all. Silently, the woman and her pokemon strode down the streets, trying not to think but finding it impossible to do so. "It's like a curse, coming back here now..." she said more to herself than anyone in particular. She wished for nothing more than to have her memories wiped. Of course she knew that would mean losing the happy memories along with the bad, but she didn't care. Any sacrifice was worth the ability to forget. The sun was setting behind her, making her hair even more ablaze than was usual. Winding her way down the street, she wanted to make her way to the beach. The lighthouse on her left was starting up, and she paused to watch it. In her right hand, she felt the Slugma egg tremble, drawing her attention to the pretty orange coloring of the shell. Auron even stopped what he was doing to peek down at the little egg in his trainers hands. She had arms wrapped around it gently, clutching it to her chest. When it stopped moving, the woman smiled. "Looks like it won't be long now... This thing's more restless than Diatrus when I put him in his pokeball for too long." Speaking of the Onix made her wish to bring out all of her beloved pokemon team. She picked up the pace, running down the steps and relishing the scent of the salty air. She had always loved the sea, even though fire was more her area of expertise. Rushing to the shoreline, she threw off her shoes and waded a bit into the water, carefully clutching her egg to her chest. She didn't want it to fall in, that could be bad. For a moment she closed her eyes, smiling as the wind played with her hair, the locks flowing out behind her like a banner. Auron stayed back a bit, merely observing the area around him. He had been raised on this beach, and in this town, so this was as much of a homecoming for him as it was for her. "Isn't this great, Auron? Finally back to the ocean." Stepping back onto the sands, feeling each grain between her toes, she let her mind slip and focused on the here and now instead of the past. For once she just let it all go. Reaching to her belt with one hand, she knocked each pokeball with her knuckles. "Come on out everyone! Let's play at the beach!" In a flash of light, her other pokemon jolted from the spheres at her waist. Fiyero, her Charizard, stretched his wings and arms with a great satisfied roar that made Capricia smile. Siel, her Rapidash, reared into the air and trotted happily in circles. She had always loved the sand. Diatrus, her tender hearted Onix, stayed right next to his trainer's side and nuzzled her as softly as he could with his big head. A soft laugh rang from her lips as she watched her beloved companions run around her. Maybe things could start to look up after all. the beach was one of his favorite places, but only when it was raining. when it wasn't, it dug up rather unpleasant memories for the teenager - more often than not with a certain trainer who trained dragons and claimed that they were kittens, and therefore, completely harmless. the black-haired teenager shook his head, ridding his mind of those thoughts. it wasn't everyday that he had a break from his mentor-of-sorts; today, by some miracle, the imperia had woken up earlier than him and managed to sneak out - the only thing was, this city was slateport, and there wasn't much to see besides the bazaar, museum, port and ... beaches. he chose the last of his limited selections.
zafaar imperia laid calmly atop the mantine spread upon the sea. the cries of children playing reached his ears, and he frowned at them. noisy little things ... even as a child, he wasn't that vocal. he pulled down his cap and stepped off khalif. ikram was snoozing atop the stingray peacefully; she wasn't in a good mood today after being denied an ice-cream and apple pie. zafaar glanced at his pokémon hugging a black egg with a skull imprinted on it as she slept. it was a relatively new egg, one he'd gotten from a lady with horns. near him was a flame-haired female; curious, he turned his gaze to her.
without his glasses, he couldn't see well. who exactly was it? there was the absence of horns however, and that meant that it probably wasn't rose red ... exhaling lightly, he waded over in her general direction, but quickly stopped when he noticed her repertoire of pokémon. if anything, it definitely wasn't the egg giver, for there was no massive centipede. zafaar watched her silently, then clambered onto khalif's back. the mantine grunted in response, shifting his body slightly to accommodate zafaar's weight. "wonder who that is," he muttered; it wasn't common for someone around his age to play around in the beach with pokémon.
or maybe he was just outdated. he rest a hand onto ikram's head and ruffled her fur; despite the static that tickled his nerves, he felt a certain sort of calm. his other hand felt around for his coat, then one of its pockets, before fishing out a pair of glasses. he ... hated wearing them, but they'd suffice for now - he put them on, and at once, the world became clearer.
"huh."

It could have been so easy to let it go, but she just couldn't. Not right now, anyway. It was still too fresh; too raw of a wound for her to merely put a bandage on it and move on. Her pokemon were very supportive of her though, she didn't know where she would be without them. Smiling, she observed her beloved pokemon. Siel trotted up to her, snorting and nodding her head excitedly. Her pretty brown eyes met Capricia's gold eyes. Reaching out a hand, she gently patted the nose of her fire horse. "You're a good girl, aren't you?" she asked, the mare shoving her maw against her trainer's new egg before trotting away to play with Auron. Clutching the Slugma egg to her chest, Capricia scampered over to her Charizard who was sitting aside, watching the others. He wasn't one to run around and play, he was more the silent observer. "Fiyero, would you be so kind?" she asked, holding out the egg to her draconian pokemon. He nodded, taking it gently in his clawed hands. She knew he would take care of it, even if it was just because she had asked him to. "Great! I'm going to go for a swim!" Capricia considered herself a passable swimmer, not too great but she could keep her head above water. The waves were a bit strong today, but she thought she could handle it. Running towards the shoreline, the flame-haired woman threw herself into the waves. It felt amazing to have the heat from the day just wash over her back and into the ocean. Plunging her head beneath the water, she held in the air for a minute before throwing her head back into the air again. She proceeded to tread water for a minute or two before she went beneath the waves again, swimming under the water and out farther into the ocean. She came up for air again, not really realizing how far out she had actually gotten. She tried to reach her feet down to touch the ocean floor, but her feet couldn't find purchase on the sands. They were too deep, too far below her to be reached, especially with the mounting waves. The undertow was a lot stronger out here, too, making it hard for her to try and swim back. She struggled against the current, using all her strength to try and get closer to the shore, but she couldn't. Siel noticed her trainer first, then the other pokemon spotted her as well. The mare paced back and forth across the shoreline, neighing in a shrill voice to try and get someone's attention. None of her pokemon could swim, so she was up to her own devices. She tried to scream, but no sound would come out. She was stranded, not gaining any headway against the strong current that kept dragging her farther and farther out. She couldn't help fighting, she didn't know anything else to do. The waves kept going over her head, pushing her under and making her unable to cry out for help. She couldn't die here, she wouldn't let this ocean be her savior and her cemetery. Arms continued fighting the current, but she was getting tired. How much longer could she keep this up? ((omg, so sorry about how long this took and how it sucks so bad.))
the girl from before continued playing with her pokémon; she soon, however, presumably grew tired of doing so and thrust herself towards the shoreline. she broke into a run, finally stopping at the edge - then simply threw herself into the waves. from his perch, the black-haired boy took off his cap and placed it on ikram; his vision was better without the cap's bill casting a shadow before him. he now had to squint though, but it was a tradeoff he was willing to take. she seemed fairly competent a swimmer, and with that thought in mind, zafaar turned his back on her and resumed his study of the coast and the people dotting the beach.
there weren't many different types of people around, he noted. people in tubes were scattered all over the place, most of them not above the age of twelve - that is, not a teenager. at this moment, the imperia felt just a tad misplaced; it was like he was supposed to be doing what a trainer did, like fight in tournaments and get into general mischief that would make their parents proud. because that was what trainers were supposed to do: get into trouble, come out unscathed and bask in the glory of praises and awe from pokémon trainer-wannabes. khalif seemed to share his sentiments, but it was more about the water for the stingray pokémon than the chosen profession of the humans.
the mantine shifted gingerly according to the buoy of the waves. he was careful not to get too close to the children, in case they decided to attempt something on him - the same thing happened to a crowd of lurking tentacool; they avoided the children, and they had their reasons. khalif saw no reason to avoid doing so. he let out a muffled gurgle, this time, sweeping himself deeper into the ocean. zafaar could swim, and therefore, his trainer would be just fine. (of course he'd be, swimming with dragons made him stronger in water than the average trainer.)
soon, the aquatic being felt a little uneasy. he was sensitive to voices, and one, high-pitched and distressed, sliced the shrieks and yells of the beach like a blade. unable to control his curiosity, khalif attempted to dip one of his wing-like appendages into the water, which of course, startled the teenager. "the heck?" he muttered, tapping khalif's head with the tip of his bare foot. "don't do that." it was then that zafaar glanced up and sullenly noted how far out they were in the ocean - they were at a distance where the children wouldn't stray into, and without sufficient ability in swimming, no one would attempt this distance ... unless they were of the swimmer type. those people were c-ra-zy, in the boy's book.
his brightly-hued irises fell on a figure swimming in the distance. standing out against the teal of the ocean's waves were strands of red, which he recognized to be the hair of the girl he'd seen just now. wasn't she by the shore? he noted her position with a degree of interest. she was a good swimmer, then ... no, wait. zafaar was now sitting upright; her arms were unnatural for someone who was swimming. he knew, simply because of experience and the bitter taste of medicine. he shot a glance back, over his shoulder and at the beach. the female's pokémon were still on shore, and they looked rather out of place, too.
his eyes slipped back, unknowingly, to the girl. to hell with it; chase was rubbing off on him. zafaar's left hand gripped the frame of his glasses, and he tossed it to the side. "khalif," his low voice alerted the mantine; the next moment, he dove into the water, arms slicing through the water as he made his way towards the girl.

Each wave toppled down on her head, making it that much harder for her to get a breath. It wasn't that she was a bad swimmer, the undertow was just too strong for her to fight way out here. The closer she tried to get to shore, the farther away it seemed to pull her from her frightened pokemon on the shoreline. Under water once again, she had to close her eyes to keep the salt out. Once she resurfaced she got a mouth full of water when she tried to inhale. Again and again she would get above the surface only to be shoved back under the water again. On the shore, her pokemon were in a frenzy. Siel reared, tossing her front legs in the air and making a ruckus. Auron paced and bellowed while Fiyero roared, still clutching onto the baby Slugma egg that his trainer entrusted him with. Diatrus was going back and forth, making very distressed calls from the waters edge. He didn't like this situation one bit. Out the corner of the Charizard's eye, he spotted another person in the water. Was he drowning too?! No... He was swimming towards their flailing trainer! The great dragon pokemon roared and flapped his wings, as if to attempt to encourage the boy swimming through the waves. He stayed on top of the water, where the under current couldn't drag him under. He seemed to be an accomplished swimmer, and hopefully would be able to save their trainer. There was another man who usually traveled with Capricia, but he was in town visiting people for the rest of the afternoon. They were only supposed to be in the city for one day. He hoped that this man could save his trainer before it was too late. Not only would the pokemon have no where to go, but they all loved Capricia dearly. Not to mention, Therel would be pissed! Words: 333Sorry this took so long! I had a lot of tests D: And sorry for the shortness. I'll do better next time. <3[/style][style=color: #BCBCBC; font-size: 11px; font-family: Times New Roman; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: center; letter-spacing: -1px]made by starr of on the edge ![/style] |

((don't worry, you're good.))
the boy was parting water frantically. he could barely see through the waves; a part of him, however, was grateful. training with dragons had paid off in the most unlikely way possible. he was able to cut the waves fairly easily, and his emotions were calm - but that was his usual self. the teenager sliced a wave with a powerful stroke of his arm and neared the girl. khalif was someway behind him. the mantine would definitely be faster and more agile on water, but he seemed to be holding back. perhaps, he did not want to let zafaar's effort go to waste; the stingray spread water fairly dangerously, with spikes of water jetting backwards from his flank when he was navigating particularly difficult waters. the pokémon hung behind the trainer as he made his way towards capricia.
zafaar was soon near her. the redhead was flailing like there was no tomorrow. not a really smart move - he knew that only out of experience and countless times where he was fished out from raging waters by a smirking dragon. edging aside his thoughts with a furious stroke forth, the teenager got close enough to capricia.
atop khalif, a sleepy ikram stirred, gripping the duskull egg tightly within her tiny paws. she appeared slightly disorientated due to the speed, and the mantine was forced to stop. zafaar was now on his own. save the girl, accidentally drown her, it was all up to him. narrowed eyes watched as zafaar reached out a hand and gripped capricia around the neck; he would then attempt to get her to calm down - but the boy was at a loss as to how to do that. with no buoy and a stationary khalif, there was no way to steady her -
he managed to get his head away from the water. "don't move," he grunted, nearly swallowing a mouthful of salt water when she kicked - it's only natural, zafaar told himself. he inhaled, held, and started making his way back to khalif. it was then that ikram realized what was going on - she shrieked, yelling while pacing around the mantine's surface area nervously. she was (painfully) reminded of the time when the boy had fell into a whirlpool and was sucked in. with a shake of her head, the pikachu bit her lower lip and stared at the moving figures.
were they going to be okay ... ?
