He didn’t understand why people liked the sea. It was.. annoying. Like everything else. He had never been a big fan of swimming, or sand, or the overall happy feelings that were supposed to come with days spent on the beach. But that was old news. Nobody would be impressed or shocked to learn that the man disliked such a joyous thing like the ocean. The sound of the waves lapping against the shore were supposed to be relaxing; the noise got under his skin, like nails on a chalkboard. Why did he always seem to end up in places he hated? Well, that probably wouldn’t be such a recurrence if he enjoyed more things. He’d never learn. Cold and distant, that’s how he liked it. It tended to keep people away from him. No one wanted to approach someone that looked like they might bite their head off if they said hello. It was his goal to project such an appearance, make himself as much of a bad guy as possible. That wasn’t hard with his sour attitude. As much as he was hating this, his Pokemon seemed excited over the change in scenery. It wasn’t often they got to be around the beach, so the times they did were ones filled with glee. Despite the fact they were all either a fire or electric-type, they seemed to like being by water. Especially Ares, his overexcited Raichu. The little mouse Pokemon frolicked by the shore, dodging the waves any time they threatened to lick his feet. So it looked like he was doing some sort of strange, weaving dance on his two back feet, his tail and ears bouncing comically with each move. That wasn’t the only thing bouncing, though. A hand crafted pouch was tied on the Raichu’s back, and resting in it was a blue and white egg, bumping about slightly with the constant movement. Cade himself didn’t seem to be worried for the egg’s safety too much, and Ares obviously wasn’t paying attention to it. The Ninetails that trailed alongside them, though, was clearly pained to see the fragile item being handled as such. Out of the corner of his eye he could see her, watching Ares closely. Athena growled each time the egg moved, red eyes narrowing and teeth barred in case she would have to take matters into her own hands. After all, originally the whole plan had been for her to care for the egg, since it had more or less been her idea to get it from that strange woman that had been handing them out for free. Of course, she had given him the egg of an ice-type. Perhaps to ridicule him, or to make a joke of his icy personality, which he had openly displayed to the not-so-sunny-herself woman. Probably thought she was clever, too. He wanted nothing to do with an ice-type, in all honesty. But Athena wouldn’t let him give it away. If it hadn’t been for the fact that contact with the egg’s frosty exterior made the Ninetails incredibly uncomfortable, she would be the one carrying it around. Cade refused to take responsibility for it: the only one that had seemed interested in carrying it around until it hatched had been Ares. Maybe that hadn’t been such a good idea. He had to admit, though; listening to her growl was getting just as agitating as the waves rolling in. Caderin glanced over at the fox Pokemon, giving her a look said to knock it off. She shot back an equally threatening glare. It was good for her that she was just about the only thing in the world he knew he could never out smart, or out fight for that matter. They had a strange friendship, one full of violence and secret cute love that would never get out to the general public. He would let her continue fretting over the egg’s safety, knowing that he had gotten his point across all the same, seeing as her exasperation took on less of an audible tone. Now he could go back to his brooding in peace. He paid no attention to his two Pokemon, kicking up sand with his nice dress shoes, raising his head every once in a while to peer up at the large lighthouse. It wasn’t until he saw Athena pouncing upon the mouse Pokemon, the two of them rolling together, that he even remembered that he wasn’t alone. Caderin stopped walking, watching as the egg tumbled out of the pouch and rolled along the beach. It made its way towards him, and he lazily stuck up his foot to stop it from going any further. It took the Pokemon a moment to realize that they were no longer in possession of the very thing they fought over. Athena figured it out first, naturally. She lifted a paw off of Ares’s chest, ending his useless wiggling to escape, and darted back to their trainer to sit beside the egg under his foot. Ares scrambled along, rising up on his back feet once he stopped in front of the foreboding Athena and his trainer, looking down at them with amusement. Good luck against her. He muttered to the Raichu, nodding his head towards Athena. With that he gently rolled the egg away from him. Of course, Ares jumped it first, and attempted to pick it up with his stubby hands. He held it close, wobbling back and forth. All Athena had to do was reach out a paw and tap him on the side - he fell over, dropping the egg. She took her time to pick it up in her maw, narrowing her eyes to deal with the icy feeling. She angled her head up and waited until Cade got the idea and outstretched his hands so she could drop it in them. It was cold to the touch, something he wasn’t use to, making him shiver. By this time Ares was back on his feet, bouncing up and down in front of him a few times before he was hit with a better idea. The little guy quickly climbed up onto Cade’s shoulder. Without hesitation the man dropped the egg back into the pouch and began to walk onwards again, ignoring Athena’s angry growls. It seemed like a good enough plan to him. This way, no harm would come to the egg and Ares could still feel special. Unfortunately, he hadn’t been counting on the Raichu’s stupidity. Something in the water caught Ares’s eye. Unable to control himself, he bounded off Caderin’s shoulder in one fluid motion, racing off. The egg shook in the pouch as he ran and then it had slipped out, rolling fast towards the waves. The Ninetails was after it before he had realized what had happened, but neither of them was quick enough. The egg rolled into the waves, swept farther away. Athena immediately took off after Ares, knowing full well she couldn’t go jumping in after it, and by the startled squeak that followed and the flashes of flames and lightning, he was pretty sure that she had caught up to him. All Caderin could do, though, was stand and stare. He rubbed awkwardly at the back of his neck with his hand, pulling his fingers through his blond hair. Luckily, the constant waves were keeping it in about the same place, pushing and pulling it back. He’d rather not go in after it. Perhaps, if he were lucky, some water Pokemon would save him the trouble and retrieve it for him. Or someone who liked water a bit more than he did would appear suddenly. As much as he hated the egg, he didn’t want to think about the various methods Athena had to choose from when it came to killing him over it.[/style] | [atrb=valign,top][atrb=style,width:103px; padding: 0px; ][style=background-color: f0f0f0; padding: 2px;][/style] |
